For the past weeks I’ve been doing some programming work etc and I’ve decided to also put up a wiki page. In order to spare any technical programming jargon on this site I’ve made the wiki to spam all that out. For the wiki go here: http://ronenix.com/wiki/ Bare in mind it’s still under construction and slightly barren.

Also the initial game story for the prototype will change over the month as I’ve found a “funnier” approach to the project and would be a bit more interesting to work on. It’s still gonna be an RPG

I’ve also provide the code documentation which can also be visited here: http://ronenix.com/contents/ANN/html/index.html

The documents is setup to display function source implementation as well. I’ve cleaned it up as most as I can and fixing some bugs in the process.

AGT work is still going on and I plan to add a racing mini-game in the pile. More updates on this coming soon.

Other news – I’ve recently received my results transcript for my degree course and I’m happy for being rewarded a First Class Honours degree (BScience), everyone seems to be celebrating their result, but for me I’ve been working alot harder since.

More updates etc soon.

After some time, I’ve managed to spare an hour or so to make the SDL version of Air Roar available for download. The demo version is packed into a zip file. This zip file contains 2 versions of the game with the difference is full-screen mode.

I’ve also included a separate download for the source code, which is also available in the Air Roar project page. The source project works mostly on Visual C++ 2005, the version used when coding the game.

XNA C# version of the game is also in the works. Screenshots of the new layout and design of the game will come soon. There’s still a couple of game play issues I’ve to fix.

The DS version of the game is also slowly building up. I’m currently testing the touchscreen controls for the game. The design is to hold the DS like a book, using the the touchscreen to move the aimer around the screen. Your score will be displayed on the other screen. I’ve also planned to allow the player to select whether they are left-handed or right-handed.

Lots more to come for Air Roar. It hasn’t died yet. *smiles*

—————–

Edit: 04/06/08

I’ve re-uploaded another compiled version, since there were problems with the program running alot faster on other PCs. Also updated the project file to link to all dependancies locally rather than directly.

Yesterday was the submission deadline for the game prototype, and I’m highly relieved about it since now I have my own time to continue working with my engine and the game.

I have to admit that with the rush at the end the prototype wasn’t as complete as I wanted it to be. In fact the version of the game I had before I had problems with my PC has more functionality than that of the submitted version. The submitted version had it’s combat system disabled and also the conversation with NPCs. These were my main functions in the game and I couldn’t released a buggy version. Although what paid off most was the engine behind it all.

Admittedly again, more work was done on the engine rather than the game prototype. Object-Component based approach needs a lot more thought and planning. Managing various components in the object must be handled carefully. This was why each objects in the game were only allowed one particular type of component attached to them (such as a physics component). This worked out pretty well for the game since the prototype was based on this object-component design.

With the viva coming up soon, the functions I removed from the submission version will be available and more polished. I will try post a video update of the game as soon as possible.

Also after the viva I’m planning on changing the engine name. Something like ROSE ( Ron’s Open Source Engine) a bit cheesy but obviously its not final. *meh*
